Group Discussions at Newton School of Technology,

Bangalore: Communication Meets Industry Readiness

19th December 2025

The CareerTrek Company recently conducted a series of Group Discussion (GD) sessions for first-year B.Tech students at Newton School of Technology, Bangalore, as part of the Communication Skills curriculum. Designed as more than a speaking exercise, these sessions focused on helping students understand how communication truly functions in professional and corporate environments.

Rather than encouraging students to simply speak more, the sessions emphasized how to think, listen, respond, and build conversations effectively. Students learned that in real-world discussions, clarity, relevance, and confidence matter far more than volume

Bringing Corporate Communication into the Classroom

The GD sessions were structured to mirror real corporate discussion settings. Students were guided on:

How discussions unfold in professional environments

How to structure thoughts logically and present them clearly

How to listen actively and respond meaningfully to others’ viewpoints

How to disagree respectfully and build on ideas instead of competing for airtime

To make the learning contextual and relevant, students engaged in discussions on themes such as:

AI and the future of engineering jobs

Salary versus passion in career choices

Startups versus corporate careers

The future of coding in the age of AI

These topics encouraged students to think critically, articulate perspectives, and relate classroom learning to real industry conversations.

Expert Facilitation and Real-Time Feedback

The sessions were facilitated by Ansh Goel, Ketan Shrivastava, Amrita Pandey, and Aashirwad Kumar, who actively guided students throughout the discussions. Instead of generic observations, students received real-world, actionable feedback, including practical tips on:

  • Improving articulation and clarity
  • Avoiding common GD mistakes
  • Handling disagreements professionally
  • Presenting ideas with impact in workplace settings

This hands-on guidance helped students quickly recognize areas of improvement and apply feedback in real time.

Preparing Students for Real Conversations, Not Just Classrooms

What began as a communication exercise soon became a powerful learning experience that blended communication skills, critical thinking, and workplace readiness. Students gained confidence not just in speaking, but in thinking through conversations, engaging constructively, and presenting ideas with purpose.

At The CareerTrek Company, we believe that communication is not about speaking the mostit’s about speaking with intent, listening with awareness, and contributing with impact. Sessions like these ensure students are prepared not only for academic success, but for real conversations in the industry that shape careers and leadership journeys.
